Maggi Cook Off Competition: The Countdown is on for the Chickpeas.....
How exciting !!!!!
Jorgia Vallance, Alesha White, Rochelle Jeffery, (and Madison Johnson, from Rm 8) will be heading down to Auckland this week to compete in the Regional Finals.
So..... be watching the 430 Show (TV2) on Wednesday 3rd September.

Continuing with cooking.... We can't forget the boys
Back in June...... another STAR Team from Room 5 "The Chefinators"
Alex Rope, Alex Downey, Kane Robertson, Blake Paxton.
Came 1st in the D.I.S. Maggi Cook Off, with a superbly made a steak sandwich, with the best ever kumara chips (quoted by the judges).
The Chickpeas came 3rd, with their delectable chicken quiche.

SPEECHES SUCCESS.............
Friday 8th August, there were butterflies churning in 14 students' stomachs. School Speech Finals.
The calibre of speeches was very high this year. But...... Again - Room 5 - you've done us all proud.

Writing Success.......Marnie Jones
Nationally recognised as an author. Marnie was one of 3 D.I.S. students, who reached the status 1 of 13 semi-finalists in this years Barfoote and Thompson Young Authors Challenge. 1054 stories from 142 schools were received, with 13 semi-finalists being named. Awesome work Marnie. We are so proud of you.
EMR -SUCCESS
The main focus for Term 1 was E.M.R. (Expericencing Marine Reserves). All students learnt About Marine Reserves and their importance to ensure maximum biodiversity of marine life is maintained. Then they learnt how to snorkel and then Experience In the environment - Snorkel at Goat Island. The final step was to Take Action For the Environment. There was a range of topics/ action projects completed throughout the school.

Stormwater pollution awareness: Victoria Cole, Marnie Jones, Inez Astley.
They also promoted the message - to use the special shopping bags, instead of accumulating too many plastic bags in our environment.

Kiana Raeli, Emma Pocklington, Alysha Ross.
Tennis Success:
Victoria Cole and her doubles partner, Sheridan Kira, came 1st place in the girl's tennis competition, during the Northern Wairoa Junior Doubles Tennis Tournament.
They also came first overall, for the Tournament. An awesome start to the year.
But wait.. there's more.... First in Boys: Torin Munn and Connor Johnson
Inez Astley and Jorgia Vallance also played well in the tournament.
